The best time to travel

When is the best time to travel?

The time when most tourists visit Malli Lošinj is - as you might expect - during the children's summer holidays.

The island is worth a visit almost all year round. With an average of 3224 hours of sunshine and only 676 mm of rain per year, it is the island in the Mediterranean with the most hours of sunshine.

After the end of the summer holidays in the last federal states of Germany in mid-September, the island and the port of Mali Lošinj shine in a completely different, magical and yet not deserted, relaxed light.

During the day the sun usually warms the air to well over 22° C and, particularly pleasantly, even at the end of October, it rarely falls below 18° C at night.

Even the sea temperature at this time is still around 20°C or above and is still inviting for swimming.

And another tip:

During the Whitsun holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg the temperatures are usually already at a pleasant 25° C, the island is very little visited and the water temperature is already around 23° C.

If you don't just want to visit the island for a beach holiday, there are many good reasons to spend your vacation in Mali Lošinj all year round:

Breathe in the spa air

The island was declared a climatic health resort as early as 1892. The air develops a very pleasant aroma, which is thanks to the wild plants growing everywhere, such as sage, myrtle, rosemary and over 300,000 pine trees.

Professor Ambroz Haračić (1855–1916) planted the pine trees that changed the climate of the island of Lošinj. As a meteorologist, he collected climate data over the Lošinj archipelago. This area owes its special microclimate, among other things, to the meeting of several ocean currents.

Hiking and mountain biking

With around 250 kilometers of trails, the island is ideal for hiking and mountain biking all year round. If you wish, you can also book a guided hike from the starting point in Nerezine to the highest peak in the archipelago, Sveti Mikul in the Osoršćica mountain range. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the highest point at 558 meters and once you reach the summit you can enjoy the most beautiful view of Lošinj.

Culinary

There are excellent restaurants in and around Mali Lošinj, especially for gourmets. Sea bass, sea bream and squid are just a small selection of the delicious seafood that can be enjoyed - in small local restaurants as well as in star restaurants.
